It took watching a few episodes to really understand the sheer amount of effort that these (wo)men go through to get ready every time. Me? I spend 5 freaking minutes getting ready. As a matter of fact, many decisions I make about my appearance are closely connected to their functionality and effortlessness (take my short hair for example, or the fact that I all of a sudden love really thick eyebrows, duh it's cause I don't have to tweeze them as often). Does all this make me lazy? Or someone who understands the importance of time, and would rather spend it doing something more interesting? Most likely a twisted combination of both.
Fact is, that despite my own lack of effort, I truly admire those who take amazing care of themselves and put in the time to look their best each and every day.
The show would be nothing without it's Queen Bee Rupaul. There is some major envy here for her toned arms and flawless skin. When you look as incredibly stylish and put together as a man and woman, you really are my hero. Oh, and look who's rocking a CHOKER!
A perfectly tailored plaid suit... a striped shirt and western animal skin boots? You're killin it Ru!
And now for a few priceless lessons learned while watching the show:
1. Color scheming is good. It's even better when the color is emerald green, the it color of the season. So go ahead and match your eyes to your lipstick to your choker and your dress, cause there's no such thing as too much of a good (color) thing.
2. Do you have a beautiful body part or face? show it off, own it, bask in it's flawlessness and don't distract from it. Go ahead you pretty thing, shave that head off, cause you don't need that hair.
3. Perhaps the best lesson of em all.. You don't need to pull out every trick in the book EVERY time you do your thing. Maybe we should all take note from the brilliant Coco Chanel who was known for always taking something off before leaving the house!
One last thing...... Don't fuck it up!
