I’ll be the first to admit when I have a problem.
Please don’t let what I am about to reveal alter your opinion of me, but the amount of jackets I own may give my shoe collection a run for its money, and I own a lot of shoes. It’s nothing new that I have a minor obsession with outerwear. As a matter of fact, when I dress in the morning I often base my outfit around the coat or jacket I am in the mood to sport on that particular day. A tad backwards to most people perhaps, but just as I often base outfits around a pair of shoes I’m dying to slip into, it’s just what inspires my looks.
Luckily I live in a city where jackets are required 75% of the year, so i get to play around with them a lot.
In the category of most prevalent and cherished are those of the utility variety, mixed with a heaping dash of military. I love the way they make any outfit feel casual and cool, never like I’m trying too hard, cause duh, I’m not.
The loose and often oversized fit makes them perfect over pretty much everything from dresses to skinny jeans and boots. Below is just a taste of a few that are part of my collection, not necessarily my favorites, cause really I love them all equally like a mother (should) love all her children just the same.
From top left: Thrift store found military shirt/jacket; Urban Outfitters Utility jacket with animal print; Thrifted army jacket with vintage brooch; H&M utility jacket with hood.
And for those in the market for a utility jacket or anorak, here are a couple of my picks:
